Blessings all mine

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee,
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
As Thou hast been,Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above;
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own great presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

~~Thomas O. Chisolm, William M. Runyan

I find myself singing this hymn or at least humming its melody all the time.  The story behind it is that Thomas Chisolm wrote it as a poem, reflecting on God’s goodness throughout Thomas’ life.  William M. Runyan worked for Moody Bible Institute and put the poem to music.

Over the past few weeks I have seen God’s faithfulness in my life as well and it has brought the song to the forefront of my mind and heart again.  I have been amazed at how God has answered prayers just hours after they were prayed, not only answering them but going “above and beyond what we could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).

This month my husband and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary.  We would be the first to say that it has definitely been full of challenges, strife, blessings, tears, some shouting, and grace.  We have never been big on extravagant gestures so I don’t expect a trip to Hawaii.  If anything it will be dinner and a movie–which I love doing with him.

So imagine my surprise when I received an anniversary card from the jewelry store where we purchased our wedding rings.  Inside was a note that said, “in honor of your anniversary please come in and receive a free pair of genuine pearl earrings.”  What??  I am now the proud owner of beautiful pearl earrings in a sterling silver setting.  Free, no purchases required.  What a blessing.

My husband needed to find fencing material for our duck pens after 4 stores he found one discounted 75%.  What a blessing!!

My family and friends have been blessing me with prayer requests for situations they are concerned about.  I feel honored that they entrust me with their hearts.

I draw breath every day on my own, walk on my own two legs, hug with my own arms, see with my own eyes, hear, smile, speak.  EVERY DAY!  What a blessing.

Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

How about you?  How are you blessed?
