melodies

“I sing because I’m happy. I sing because I’m free, His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.” (Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel, “His Eye is on the Sparrow”).

All morning I have been humming a melody.  It is a sign that my spirit is refreshed and rejuvenated; it is also the first thing to disappear when I am stressed.   Sometimes I hum nonsensical melodies, other times it is a hymn.  Today I found myself humming Kristian Stanfill’s song, Jesus Paid It All.  Psalm 109:30 says, “With my mouth I will extol the LORD; in the great throng I will praise him.”  This is how I feel when I sing or hum.  I have to let the music out because it is overflowing from within.

The lyrics of the song I have been singing today are some of my favorites.  They remind me that Jesus is bigger than any struggle I face, sorrow I have, worry I wrestle with, or concerns I carry.  I pray that you will feel the blessing of these words and let them wash over you today.

Jesus Paid It All

And I hear the Savior say
“Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all”

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
My sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

He washed away all my sins
All my sins

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete
“Jesus died my soul to save”
My lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow

Yes, He did

Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
We’ll praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

Jesus, Jesus
You’re the one
You’re the one

The Son of God
The Conquerer of Death
The King of kings
The Sacrificial Lamb
Yeah

Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

Oh, praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
We’ll praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

Jesus
Yeah
