” For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-11).
I imagine our hearts as a garden- what we plant there will be lived out in our day-to-day lives, whether we are intentional about it or not.
As we grow, we need to make sure we are paying attention to what we are growing. Are we planting seeds of grace, mercy, love, kindness, and encouraging goodness or are we leaving behind a wake of bitterness, brokenness, heartache, and pain?
Peter writes to his fellow brothers and sisters to remind them what they should be growing in their faith. “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We are alive in Christ and should be proving it by how we live out our Faith. We were dead in our sins, we are now alive in our Lord, and should be living for His purpose.
So go plant some goodness in the hearts and lives of those around you.
