I was reminded today of the briefness of life. Scripture says, Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14).
Compared to eternity, this life is like the blink of an eye.
As I watch dear ones find their way through life without their loved ones by their sides I long to hold mine a little longer and hug them a little tighter.
I know that Scripture is clear, those who know Christ will be seen again someday. The story of Lazarus is a perfect example of this, Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11).
We can mourn this side of Heaven, but remember to speak to those who are still here. Tell them they matter, show them they matter.
Love them deeply, richly, with wild abandon. You will be the richer for it and your relationship will be blessed by it.
Goodbye is not forever from Heaven’s point of view, but it is a long way off from an earthly view.
