camped in the comfortable

As I have reflected on this journey during 2015, I find myself amazed at how often God has used different situations to speak to me.  To prod me along, to prompt me to stay on the trail and not wander off. I have found words of correction, words of encouragement, and words of blessing in the most unexpected places.

Recently, I was sharing the story of how my family and I came to move to Nebraska.  We have no family here, no prior support system.  Our extended families live at least eight hours away by car, but we knew it was time to move.  This story was re-framed by the verses in Deuteronomy 1:6: The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. God was speaking to the Israelites who had encamped around Mt. Horeb for a year, instead of continuing the journey to the Promised Land.

My husband and I had also been “camped in the comfortable” for too long.  We were not listening (I was not listening) to the whispers of God until finally we had to listen. It was time to turn our hearts and eyes to what God had planned next for us.  We were called to see the new vistas, the new challenges, the new opportunities and adventures — but first we had to pack up and move.

And so move we did. Now on the edge of the cliff of 2016 we stand looking off into the unknown wondering what God has planned for us to accomplish in the next 366 days.  My husband said to me just the other day that if I was too cautious I would miss out on new opportunities.  He is right, as usual.  It’s time to finally take the jump from the cliff and find that I have wings. I will fly and soar to the new heights God has designed.  To places I never knew I would travel.

This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 43:16, 18-19).

May you also find your wings to fly and follow God where He leads.  His plans are amazing and will always stretch, strengthen, and grow you in ways you never dreamed.

Blessings in 2016.
