In the past twenty-four hours the impact of words and encouragement has come front and center in my circle of friends and family. I have watched as building up others helps them straighten their shoulders and lift their heads up. Lightening their hearts and blessing them deeply.
Thanks to social media, I have been able to join with loved ones celebrating an incredible journey for another dear one. I am blessed to share in the joy, excitement, and possibility of making dreams a reality.
Words, good or bad are so much more powerful than the children’s rhyme would suggest. Words can and do hurt, but words can and do heal. Speaking with others, listening to their words, hearing their hearts can help put together the broken pieces in someone’s life.
A dear woman I work with makes a point to listen when others speak. She has been gifted with discernment to hear the things that aren’t spoken but are truly felt inside. Each time I chat with her I find myself feeling lighter in step and refreshed from the conversation.
These experiences remind me that a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1). The verse in Colossians 3:12 reminds us why we should use wise words; Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Our words do matter.
So build up, encourage, strengthen, and bless someone else today. Help them to hold their heads up, to know their value and remember their worth.
