Have you ever met someone and thought, “If only they could use their energy and passion for something good!” It can be discouraging to watch someone consistently push and push for their perspective to become the norm, when in reality, their “norm” will only bring destruction in the end.
Jezebel in 1 Kings was exactly that kind of woman. She worshiped Baal, a false god, created by man, and pushed her belief system on all of Israel. Even supporting the deaths of all the priests who worshiped the True God of Israel, YHWH. If she had put her faith in the True God imagine how many more people would know Him personally? How many more people, families, lives, and relationships would be impacted for all of eternity, if she chose to follow Christ?
Instead she made her own decisions, had hundreds of innocents killed for her personal purposes and gains in the kingdom Ahab ruled. She sought to kill Elijah when his God defeated her god (1 Kings 18:16-39) on Mt. Caramel. It was her obsession to get her false god to be accepted by Israel. But where Truth is found, lies cannot stand, as God proved at the altar that day.
Jezebel met a brutal death and is remembered as a woman who was shameless, morally corrupt, scheming, and evil. Oh, what a different legacy could have been left behind– if only she chose to follow YHWH.
Over the years, I have met so many women who have the opportunity to pour love, grace, mercy, and compassion into the people around them. Unfortunately, they choose to be malicious, cruel, vindictive, divisive, and ultimately self-destructive. It breaks my heart. When we choose to walk away from all the things of God because we think we have something better, we have fallen deep into the enemy’s trap. We trade truth for a lie, joy for sorrow, and redemption for castigation. Why?
Our pride has been keeping us from a true, pure relationship with God since the beginning of time. Isn’t it time for us to let go of our pride and embrace the Truth? God has such wonderful, amazing, unfathomable plans for our lives. Plans that will stretch us, grow us, challenge us, bless us, bless others, and give Him the glory He deserves. All we need to do, all we have to do, is confess. Be honest with God that we have been prideful and we have blown it. He will meet us where we are and bring us to where we can be with His great grace and mercy.
O Best Beloved, isn’t it time? Time to put down our self-destruction and embrace the restoration that can only come from the Throne room of God Himself?
Let us put down the title of Jezebel for the last time and embrace the new life and new name God offers (2 Corinthians 5:17, Revelation 2:17)– and let’s do it today.
