giving birth

Today is my son’s birthday. He has grown up and become a young man for whom I pray daily. He has shown himself to be capable of many things and continues to learn many more. I am proud of who he is and who he is becoming. My second son will soon be going off to college and my title of Mom will take on a different role of friend and advisor.

I have friends and family who are parents of many children, parents of a few children, and others who are not parents at all. Does that mean the friends and family who have not had children are not able to give birth?

In the purist sense, giving birth means bringing forth*. Therefore, we are all capable of giving birth. Whether we are parents, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, or not parents, we all have the ability to give birth. When we inspire, encourage, build into, challenge, teach, and mentor people, we are a part of bringing forth a stronger, healthier person or persons.

When we create stories, music, conceive new concepts, design buildings, invent new technology we are giving birth to something. Even the words describe that event: conceive, create, invent. We are made by our Creator in His image, it would follow that He would also wire us inside to create. Believing this to be true, what did God wire into you?

Dear Ones, when you are in your kitchen are you able to create a beautiful meal out of a frozen bag of vegetables, a loaf of bread, and some cheese? Then maybe God wired you with the gift of hospitality. Do you enjoy spending time with children and helping them explore the world? Maybe you were wired with the gift of teaching. When you see things in the world do you pull out your camera or jot down some thoughts in a journal? Maybe God wired you to be a story-teller.

The point is, Best Beloved, that in this world that pushes for conformity, we are called, we are wired, we are created– to create, to give birth to things, ideas, inspiration, and yes, children (if we are called to be parents). God shares His love for us when we find joy in doing these things. He smiles at us, just like a proud Father would, when He sees us using the gifts and skills He wired into us. We are implementing His presents and blessing others with those presents. What are you giving birth to in your life?

Do not let the enemy tell you that what you are giving birth to isn’t needed or wanted. There is someone in this world who is seeking what you are creating. We are here for a purpose and that purpose is in your wiring. The question comes, will you connect that wiring to use your gifts because someone is waiting.
