Certainty

In my day to day interactions I hear people express their concerns, their fears, their worries. Some days it would appear that the sun will never shine, the lost will remain lost, and there is no hope to be found anywhere. It is as if there is nothing to be certain of but uncertainty.

Is that really all there is?

Where is the hope? Where is the promise? Where is the truth? If this world is really destined for nothing else except trouble and sadness then the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross was a waste. We are all just waiting to die and there is nothing to look forward to, nothing to seek. It’s worthless.

Why bother?

We would be stuck in the very sin we believed we were released from and we would be dying in that same sin. No hope of eternity with Christ, no hope of something better than this world. No hope of being reunited with loved ones. No hope of justice. It’s all lost.

Thankfully, Scripture says otherwise.

First John 5:3-5 says, For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden,  because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.  And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Verses 11-13 continue with this thought,  And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.  I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

We can believe, we can hope. There is victory over the brokenness of this world, there is hope in the eternal. We have this victory because of our faith in Jesus. Not by our actions, but by Jesus who conquered the grave. Through Him we have the certainty of Heaven, the certainty that this world is not all there is for us. Through Jesus we have the hope, we have the promise, we have the Truth.

Believing in Christ, accepting salvation through His death and resurrection means we can experience deep-rooted joy. Joy no one, no thing can take away. Not only that, it’s a joy we can share with others. We have the ability- the responsibility too- to share this blessing, this joy, hope, faith, and promise with others.

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One. We are in the true One- that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life ( 1 John 5:20).

Can I get an amen?
